A lot of new technologies face its breakthrough – but the strongest technology trends in 2018 will still be the ones we’ve already talked for a while. That says the experts we talked to.

As we know of artificial intelligence (AI), this is all about judging by its definitive breakthrough.

Already today, AI in health care is used for example to detect cancer, sales organizations to determine which transactions are worth investing in or the financial market to get the right shares to funds. The use in 2018 will be both broader and deeper.

“AI changes the way organizations find new business opportunities and how they communicate their processes, products and services,” said Whit Andrews, analyst at Gartner.

1. Software that teaches – artificial intelligence.

Creating systems that can learn, adjust and even act on their own are something that IT providers will fight in the next few years. During the year, attention was drawn to how Google released a new powerful version of its AI Alphago that plays the Go game tactics.

This version has the add-on Zero and it’s because the program does not require any human knowledge from the beginning, it relies on a self-learning mechanism. It is programmed so that it learns from mistakes and adjusts its game so that it leads to victories.

This is an area where it will happen this year and the software will not only be intended for gaming – but for improving decision making and business models.

“AI technicians are developing fast and organizations will need to make significant investments in processes and tools to exploit these technologies,” said David Cearly, analyst at Gartner.

2. Block chain – much more than Bitcoin.

The block chain is not just a cryptographic extension infrastructure anymore – without a platform for digital transformation.

The block chain technology was previously most interesting for the financial sector, but the potential uses are considerably broader – and now it is increasingly talked about letting this technology handle for example identification, and for solutions in, for example, health care, real estate, logistics, manufacturing with more.

During the year, several of the largest IT providers have begun offering this as a service.

3. The public cloud accelerates corporate innovation.

It is impossible to omit the emergence of clouds when talking about strong technical trends right now. The work of moving from the traditional IT environments to the cloud is in full swing, and no slowdown is in sight.

However, most companies have worked with strategists so far. Now it’s time to find the best ways to make use of the cloud.

4. Internet of things.

It has been talked about the Internet of things in a few years and there is no reason to end it now. 2018 and the years to come will be an important year, with better networks, cheaper sensors and smarter business solutions.

A trend in the trend is that data collection and management is placed closer to the data sources, i.e the connected devices. This trend, of course, goes hand in hand with the great explosion of information and data – and how to handle them.

5. Digital employees (robots) take place in the offices.

8. Intelligent apps and analysis.

Responding quickly to the ugly threats – it can save a lot of effort and dental assault. 

Companies must continuously, in real time, conduct risk analyzes and assess how much they should rely on others. And you have to be able to act quickly, based on the analyzes that are made.

This means that developers, operating staff and security experts have to work together. One example is that security must be tested continuously during the development and operation of applications.
